This program is used to send your files (html, gif, jpg, txt, etc) to your web site. I is really a very easy program to use and understand as far as the Basics go. I will attempt to lay out here the very basic basics to sending files to Geocities (as an example) as it seems to be the most popular.
First you need to download and install FREE WS_ftp LE (Limited Edition), and start it.
(1) Click on the New button {Fig 1-4}that will clear all the entry windows {Fig 1-2,5,7,10,11,12,13,14}
(2) Enter a name that you what to call this connection in Profile Name: {Fig 1-2}, this name is yours to pick, it don't matter what it is.
(3) Enter the Host Name/Address: {Fig 1-5}, this must be what the server has told you to use, each server normally has a page that will give you this address. In the example case this is Geocites.
(4) In the Host Type: window {Fig 1-7}, from the drop down menu {Fig 1-6} choose the appropriate Host Type (normally Unix or Windows NT, if you set this wrong WS_ftpLE will change it so don't worry)
(5) Enter your User ID: {Fig 1-3}, in the case of Geocities this is your user name there, what ever it might be.
(6) Enter in your Password: {Fig 1-4}
(7) Click Apply (this saves these settings) {Fig 1-17}
(8) Click OK. {Fig 1-15}this will start the connection process and connect you to Geocities ftp site.
NOTE: Geocities is famous for being off line a lot. Be patient, it may take more than 1 try.

Now if all went well you should be connected to your server.
(1) In the Local System window {Fig 2-45} shows the files on your system (computer hard drive), locate the folder that your files (that you want to send to the server) are in.
(2) Once you have them showing in {Fig 2-45} and the path is correct in {Fig 2-1}, click on Options {Fig 2-41}

(1) Click on the Session tab {Fig 3-1}
(2) Click on the Save Current Directories as Connection Directories button {Fig 3-10}, now when ever you use your connection you just created you won't have to find the folder and files again unless you move them. The next time you want to use this connection just select it from the drop down menu {Fig 1-3} and then OK {Fig 1-15}

(1) In the Local System window {Fig 2-45}, highlight the files you want to send then click the send button {Fig 2-18}, and you are ftping : ).
NOTE: At some servers you will NOT see any files in the Remote System window {Fig 2-46}, with some servers you will. You can delete files from there or download them by highlighting them and selecting one of the buttons {Fig 2-29} to delete or {Fig 2-17} to download.
