NotePad + HTML set-up tips

After installing NotePad+ start the program then:

(1) In the menu choose Options {Fig 1-4}

(2) Choose Preferences {Fig 2-2}

 

(3) Choose Dialogs {Fig 3-1}

(4) In the Open Dialog Box: area {Fig 3-3} check Other and set the location of your web files so that NP+ will automatically open to the directory (folder) you choose.  Enter or browse {Fig 3-5} your folder of choice.

(5) Check the box for Follow Path after Open {Fig 3-6}

(6) Check the box for Follow Path after Save As {Fig 3-7}

(7) In the Open & Save Dialog Filters area click on the UP or DOWN arrows {Fig 3-9,10} until HTML Files (*.htm,*.html) is at the top of the list {Fig 3-8}

(8) Click Apply {Fig 3-18}

(9) Click OK {Fig 3-16}

The rest of the choices on the other tabs are personal preference.

NotePad + should now open to the directory (folder) you chose and should save in html format automatically unless you specify otherwise.

    Another good thing to do with NotePad is to add it to your "Send To" folder, so you can right click a *.html or other file and choose "Send To" then choose "NotePad" making it much easier to access them from Windows Explorer or My Computer.
    First locate your "Send To" folder should be C:\Windows\Send To (In Windows XP you will find it under Documents and Settings under administrator, default user or your account) just so you know where it is. Then look in C:\Windows\System and find notepad.exe file, right click notepad.exe file and drag it to C:\Winodows\Send To, release the right mouse button and choose "Create Shortcut here". Thats it your done, now right click on a text file like *.txt, *.log, *.html etc, then choose "Send To" Notepad should now be in the list of options and ready for use.
